The Sound of Silence - 2018 Nyepi Canggu Bali

What is the sound of silence?  I think it was the night of Nyepi in Bali, lying back and staring into the stars, shining brighter than I had ever seen before.  Every twinkle, every shooting star, even Mars, was visible from the rooftop of The Farm Hostel on March 17th, 2018.  

The day before Nyepi, there is a elaborate parade, monsters go through the streets frightening the bad spirits away, to ensure that the Balinese aren't haunted for the year to come.  

The day after Nyepi, is the day of silence.  No lights, no noise, fasting.  At night, the stars are brilliant, as the entire island is dark and quite.  It's a day of meditation, as we hide from the monsters.
